Robert Frank: Rare and Unusual
Stephen Daiter Gallery is pleased to present Rare and Unusual, an exhibition featuring over twenty vintage photographs by Swiss American photographer Robert Frank. This exhibition includes some rare and exceptional prints of Frank’s most recognized images, captivating outtakes from his celebrated publications, as well as early work produced in Europe.
Born in Zurich, Frank discovered his artistic passion early and apprenticed with photographers as a teen. This early foundation led to a lifelong commitment of documenting the world around him. In 1947, he moved to America and worked under Alexey Brodovitch at Harper’s Bazaar before choosing a more nomadic path. Influenced by Walker Evans, Bill Brandt, and André Kertész, he developed a distinctive photographic style that blended rawness and spontaneity. Frank’s most notable publication The Americans (1958) stands as a defining moment in the evolution of photography.
Rare and Unusual offers a unique glimpse into the world of one of the twentieth century’s most influential photographers.
