Charles A. Swedlund Daguerreotype Collection

For over sixty years Charles A. Swedlund has been passionate about daguerreotypes, and in that time he has amassed an incredible collection over more than 1,000 images. Some of the highlights of the collection include a friend of Daniel Webster’s – taken at the home of Webster in 1852, a sow and her piglets, a nude child, a firefighter, people and their pets, a bearded woman, a Seminary class, and many, many others.

Stephen Daiter Gallery is pleased to be offering the Swedlund collection for sale, with many choice pieces on display at the gallery from January 6 – February 4.  Until now, Swedlund a consummate collector, has never parted with a single piece “[he] fell in love with daguerreotypes at first sight and it has not cooled in over 60 years. I am now 81, and feel that it is now time for them to have a new home.”

Please stop by during the month of January to enjoy these nineteenth-century treasures.
